Although seemingly idyllic on the outside, Thailand is a difficult land to live in. Cultural and moral issues make it hard to make friendships that are deep. Sister Faye has done a wonderful work establishing a board of trustees, starting schools in the area and in the wider SE Asian context. She was there when the Tsunami hit and was able to give assistance to a coastal families.
In Thailand World In Need, we launched new programmes for 2008
a) A Total Language Arts Curriculum for our After School Enhancement Program.
b) A Wonderland-playground where children can come and enjoy playing with other children after their English classes.
c) Cross-cultural adaptation courses for Philippinos and for Indonesians.
Rejoice with us for with God's favour He has brought us thus far, as we look back 2 years ago World In Need Thailand in Rattaphum was regarded as a valley of dried bones. No one dare to come near to this place for fear of snakes, scorpions, centipedes and other poisonous insects.
Physically, it's hard work laying the foundation, but God has helped us set everything in order. Local people worked with us is in many ways, setting up a profitable programme. Invitations come to us to teach English in a community school with 120 children. Opportunities abound to work with the Thai people in our area. |
