BANGLADESH

Bangladesh is amongst the most densely populated and poorest countries in the world.  Throughout its history it has been battered by famines, natural disasters, widespread poverty and political turmoil.

The restoration of democracy in 1991 led to a period of relative stability and economic progress which saw improvements in the levels of literacy and the number of girls attending school.  However, Bangladesh still faces many challenges.  There is widespread poverty, disease, malnutrition and many families still cannot afford the fees needed for their children to attend school.

In Bangladesh, World In Need works in partnership with Smyrna Youth Fellowship.  This is a network of student groups across Bangladesh who want to help their people and serve their nation. They have started a new home for orphans and want to set up local enterprises to finance their operations. This includes exporting items like lace work, pearls and handicrafts.  In addition WIN provides on-going support to needy children through its child sponsorship programme.

Unwanted shares?

You can get rid of these charitably by donating them to ShareGift (registered charity 1052686), an independent charity which specialises in accepting small holdings of shares, particularly those which are not worth selling because that would cost more than they are worth. ShareGift distributes its funds to other UK charities and over 1,000 UK charities have already benefited, including World In Need.
